Geographical Indication of the products will definitely fetch the farmers a premium price for their produces. Geographical Indication is being done for two varieties pulses crops and they are called attappady thuvara and Attukomb avara. Attappady Redgram is cultivated as part of mixed crop in shifting cultivation prevalent among the tribes of attappady Attappady Thuvara is Cultivated mainly by Kurumbas and Mudugas of Attappady and Attukomban avara is cultivated mainly at the Moolakomb Hamlet of Pudur panchayath. attukomban Avara is Cultivated in some more hamlets in the rain shadow region of eastern attappady. Studies for the geographial Indication is being done by IPR cell of Kerala Agricultural university under Prof. Elsy. The research is completed and recognition of the crops will be served soon.

അട്ടപ്പാടി ആദിവാസി മേഖലയിലെ ഒരു പാരമ്പര്യ തനത് പയർ വർഗ്ഗ വിളയാണ് അട്ടപ്പാടി തുവര. ഒരു വർഷമാണ് തുവര ചെടിയുടെ ആയുസ് എങ്കിലും പരിചരിച്ചാൽ 2 വർഷം വരെ വിളവ് ലഭിക്കും. പച്ചക്ക് പയർ മണി ആയും ഉണക്കി മണിആയും പരിപ്പ് ആയും ഭക്ഷണത്തിൽ ഉപയോഗിക്കാം. വിപണിയിൽ ഉള്ള മറ്റു തുവര പരിപ്പിനേക്കാളും ഗുണം, മണം, നിറം എന്നിവ കൂടുതലാണ്. വേനൽ മഴയോട് കൂടി നിലമൊരുക്കി വിത്തിടുന്നു. നവംബർ, ഡിസംബർ മാസങ്ങളിൽ പൂവിടുന്നു. ജനുവരി ഫെബ്രുവരി യിൽ വിളവെടുപ്പിനു പാകമാകുന്നു. ഏക വിള ആയും റാഗി, ചാമ തുടങ്ങിയ ചെറുധാന്യങ്ങൾക്കൊപ്പം മിശ്ര വിള ആയും തുവര കൃഷി ചെയ്യുന്നു. അട്ടപ്പാടി തുവര ചെടി 8 -14 അടി വരെ ഉയരത്തിൽ വളരുന്നു. പൂവിനു മഞ്ഞ നിറമാണ്. പരിപ്പിനു വെള്ള നിറം കൂടുതലാണ്. പഞ്ചക്കാട് കൊത്തുകാട് എന്നൊക്കെ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന കൃഷി രീതിയിൽ മഴയെ ആശ്രയിച്ചും ചില മേഖലകളിൽ ജല സേചന സൗകര്യം ഒരുക്കിയും കൃഷി ചെയ്യുന്നു.

അട്ടപ്പാടിയുടെ വടക്ക് കിഴക്കൻ മേഖലയിൽ കണ്ടു വരുന്ന ഒരു പാരമ്പര്യ- തനത് പയർ വർഗ വിളയാണ് ആട്ടുകൊമ്പൻ അമര. ഏപ്രിൽ-മേയ് മാസങ്ങളിൽ കൃഷിയിറക്കുന്ന ഈ അമര പയറിൽ നവംബർ, ഡിസംബർ മാസങ്ങളിൽ പൂവ് വിരിയുന്നു. പൂവ് പയർ ആകാൻ 60 ദിവസം വരെ എടുക്കുന്നു. ആടിൻറെ കൊമ്പുകളോട് സാമ്യം ഉള്ള ആകൃതിയിലാണ് ഈ ചെടിയുടെ ബീൻസ് വളരുന്നത്. വള്ളി ചെടിയായി പടർന്ന് വളരുന്ന ഈ വിളയുടെ തണ്ട്, പൂവ്, ബീൻസ് എന്നിവക്ക് വയലറ്റ് കലർന്ന റോസ് നിറമാണ്. കറുപ്പും വെളുപ്പും കലർന്ന ഉള്ള പുറന്തോടിനുള്ളിലാണ് പരിപ്പ് സംരക്ഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഒരു വർഷമാണ് ശരാശരി ആയുസ് എന്നിരിക്കിലും നന്നായി പരിചരിച്ചാൽ 2 ,3 വർഷം വരെ വിളവ് ലഭിക്കും.
